Our Great Loop Adventure

Mary, Tori the seeing eye dog, and I are gearing up for quite an adventure...

We are making plans to transport our boat, the Gammel Dansk, from Anacortes, Washington, to Red Wing, Minnesota, at the end of September.  If all goes well, we intend to push off on the Nordic Tug down the Mississippi River to Mobile, Alabama, then cross the Gulf of Mexico, and eventually navigate to the eastern side of Florida, where we'll begin our trip up the inter-coastal waterway to New York Harbor.  After anchoring at the big toe of Lady Liberty, it's up the Hudson River we chug to the Erie Canal, and on through the St. Lawrence Seaway to the Great Lakes.  We'll work our way down the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan to downtown Chicago, and into the Illinois River, which will take us to Grafton, Illinois.  There we'll turn north up the Mississippi River to Red Wing, Minnesota... a mere 6,000+ miles since our departure.  The loop takes a year to complete.

Our hope is to post updates and photos, as well as show our progress on a map, along the way.

Stay tuned!

And in the meantime, click here to listen to a song that inspires us -- especially the verse that starts: Shores, distant shores, there's where I'm headed for...
